About once a month at school we practice some type of emergency drill. Today there was a lockdown drill. After work was the crisis prevention training. In the car after this Billy Joel's song, Leningrad, came on through my playlist. There is a line in that song, "Cold war kids were hard to kill under their desks in an air raid drill." I'm a little younger than Mr. Joel and I don't think I ever experienced them, my older brothers did though. The terror 60 years ago was from thousands of miles away. Today the terror could be within. More things happened today that had nothing to do with me or where I work but that were along these lines. All these things together have left a shadow on my day.
My Happy things for today.
Despite the above stuff there are still bunches of little things today that I am happy for:
- Good conversations with students
- Finding out one of the teachers is from Millinocket, Maine (this is on here because I ended up having to say Millinocket a few times and it is a word that sounds funny on my tongue AND it is near the end of the Appalachian Trial)
- Walking after work there was a small pond with ice on it. The ice was not safe, but I was beginning to wonder if it had been cold enough long enough this winter for ice to form on a pond
- Third day in a row I made 10,000 steps
- Being playful during training--I got to pretend to be an anxious student that wouldn't calm down. The sun was setting out the window and I decided to play act by being afraid of the setting sun, that it might burn me. It was worth a few laughs in what can be a stressful training. Sometimes I miss improv
- Dinner at Burger King with Gideon and his other grandmother
- Pre-bedtime snuggles with Gideon
A Small Pond with ice.
