The Ball

The event today was a ball.  I didn't dance at it and we actually didn't stay late enough to attend the actual ball.  I watched some of the lessons and dance practices, but we were there mostly for court.  Had I been at the lesson part of the event when they were learning something I was at least vaguely familiar with, I may have practiced, but I was busy during most of that time.  I wish I could say that I stepped in when they asked for volunteers to do dishes, but I didn't.

It seems like a good portion of the event I was moving from one conversation to another.  While sitting and helping someone warp their loom I was asked by three different people if they could have five minutes of my time when I was free.  These conversations then ranged from approximately five minutes to close to an hour, and that is okay.  One apology (which was appreciated, but not necessary), one exchequer meeting, and one talk about taking on a protege.  Many things happened today.  In no particular order are some of the happy things:

  • Being asked to be someone's pelican was an honor (contemplation time).
  • Watching the dancers was fun.
  • Getting to sit and talk with people I don't get to see often.
  • Gideon became a member of the Order of Gawain.  This is an award for children under 17 who are chivalrous and courteous.  For info on awards please check out this page.
  • Other friends got awards that were very much deserved.
  • Getting help from friends.
  • We may have some allies for an upcoming war.
  • For some reason the Queen looked exceptional today and that was good to see.
  • After we left the event we had dinner with friends.
  • Singing loudly on the drive home to stay awake and then, when I was too tired, Z drove and I sang loudly to help him stay awake.
  • Laughter.
