Last night I fell asleep while writing. Tonight I am going to try and make it short so as to be able to stay awake. Since sleep is important, I slept in this morning. It made for less time in the garden because of the sun and heat.
We have quite a few Queen Anne's Lace growing in the yard. They were mowed around to help promote pollinators. Today I cut off many of the seeds and trimmed some of the flowers to put in vases. The seeds will be unceremoniously dropped in the back part of the property tomorrow. Maybe where the forest used to be can become a field of flowers... I will keep hoping. Some things have started to grow back there, but not as much as I was hoping. A new plant I identified is poke weed and it is poisonous. I had been hoping to see some jack in the pulpit or lady slippers but I haven't yet. I may have missed them or it may be early.
Anyhow, I unpacked a bunch of flower vases today and I used some of K's food coloring and tried to color the Queen Anne's Lace. Some colors worked better than others. It was fun and is one of my happy things for today. Another is that I got my covid test back and it is negative. I'm not sure how to feel about this in all honesty. There is a margin of error, apparently false negatives are fairly common. At the same time, I don't feel like I have anything. Quarantine is not always fun though. I miss my bed. I miss having clothes in a drawer or closet instead of my backpack. I miss my NH family-they are on the other side of the wall from those of us who have been in Texas, but we only see each other briefly and outside. I miss being able to walk down the street, even with my mask. There will be a family meeting tomorrow and we will decide whether to integrate or wait a little longer.

Very glad your Covid test came back negative! You're definitely too late for lady's slipper flowers - start looking for those mid-late May next year, give or take a bit to account for slight difference in area of the state we're in. Same for the familiar "pulpit" of Jack-in-the-Pulpit (mid-late May), but if you know what to look for you should still be able to find the plants if you have them. By now, the "pulpit" will have been replaced by three broad leaves, underneath which will be hidden the seed cluster. Seeds are green now, but will turn bright red (and therefore be easier to spot) a bit later in the year. I'll send some pics of ours thru FB to help ID.
