Today the color is blue

On the way to my chiropractor appointment this morning I saw a sign for tomato plants for $1.99.  On the way home I bought five.  I wish I could say that gardening was my thing but I feel like a poser.  I spend hours in there planting, weeding and watering, but this is my first big garden.  If my history counts for anything, I doubt I'll be able to keep up with it.  Right now though it feels almost like a calling.  When I think of the future I either see shelves full of canned goods or a rotting compost heap.  Every day decisions are made that could sway that vision one way or the other.

I have goals though.  One of the teachers gave me a gift card and I bought a blueberry bush with it.  K and I planted it and I am hopeful that there will be many blueberries in a month or so.  We might pick up another one.  I have to research whether this particular blueberry plant needs another near by or not for pollination.  It is already loaded with berries so I guess it is good for this season.

We had some excitement today. While I was gardening, an ATV drove onto the property out back, past the yard.  They didn't stay long.  Four heard them talking when they turned around that the trail was blocked by some of the downed wood.  Apparently, people are used to using the land for things like ATVs and walking.  This may become problematic when the archery and thrown weapons ranges, that we plan to make, are in use.  We are going to look into signage.

My happy is the blueberry bush.  The gift was a pleasant surprise to my day.   Also, I think all this gardening is helping me build strong muscles.  Another happy for today is the butterfly that came to pollinate flowers near me today.

Unknown flower number two.
These flowering bushes are familiar to me, but have no names that are popping to mind.
